Through a collaborative public-private partnership, the initiative has guided infrastructure improvements, enhanced public spaces, attracted new businesses, and fostered a rich cultural environment.Transforming Downtown JanesvilleSince its inception, the ARISE Plan has led to strategic enhancements throughout the downtown area. Town Square has emerged as a focal point for community gatherings, hosting events year-round. Notable additions include the Blackhawk Community Credit Union Festival Street, Cope Ryan & J.P. Cullen Memorial Pavilions, the popular Bubbler, and the Blain Gilbertson Family Heritage Pedestrian Bridge spanning the Rock River—all contributing to a more welcoming and accessible public space.Key infrastructure upgrades have included two-way street conversions, improved streetscapes, and the removal of an outdated parking deck over the river, unveiling one of downtown’s most valuable assets. Programs like the Downtown Janesville BID grant have supported façade improvements, helping businesses enhance their presence and attract more customers. Downtown Janesville has become a premier event destination, hosting more than 1,000 gatherings annually, including the Janesville Farmers Market, Jolly Jingle, and Janesville Town Square Gran Prix. Downtown Janesville, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to activating the downtown area, continues to organize popular events like Music at the Marv, Flannelfest, and the Wine Walk.The district now boasts 25 restaurants and bars, 45 unique shops and boutiques, and 12 event venues, all contributing to a lively and thriving downtown economy. The Children’s Museum of Rock County (CMRC) has received a major boost in funding thanks to a generous $1.5 million pledge from Woodman’s Markets. This contribution positions Woodman’s as one of the museum’s top donors and brings CMRC closer to realizing its vision for a state-of-the-art children’s learning space in our town.A Transformative ContributionLast month, CMRC announced it was finalizing designs for its future location at 100 W. Milwaukee Street. With Woodman’s pledge, the museum moves one step closer to completing its capital campaign and breaking ground on a facility that will inspire and educate children across Rock County.John Westphal, CMRC President and Capital Campaign Chair, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “We are thrilled that Woodman’s has pledged their support of this project. Good things are happening here in Janesville and Rock County because of organizations like Woodman’s giving back.”Woodman’s Commitment to JanesvilleWoodman’s Markets has a long history of community involvement in Janesville. Founded in 1919 as a small produce stand on Milton Avenue, the company has grown into a major regional grocery chain serving 19 communities across Wisconsin and Illinois. Since transitioning to an employee-owned company in 1979, Woodman’s has remained committed to investing in the communities it serves.“Woodman’s is proud to be a part of the Janesville community for over a century and happy to assist in bringing a children’s museum to the city, where children can learn and play in an amazing environment,” said Clint Woodman, President of Woodman’s. “We look forward to the next century of continued savings, selection, and community involvement.”A Unique Agricultural ExhibitOne of the most exciting aspects of the museum’s development is its planned agricultural exhibit, which will feature a kid-friendly Woodman’s market. CMRC Public Relations and Communications Director Olivia McCarthy emphasized the importance of this exhibit, noting that it will go beyond the typical grocery store play experience. “Our plans are more comprehensive. We want kids to be able to engage with every stage of the farm-to-table process while also learning about modern farming techniques.”Future Plans and Continued SupportCMRC is currently in the process of hiring its first executive director, a key milestone as it prepares for construction. Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center–Janesville and Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside have successfully performed their first dual leadless pacemaker procedures. This marks a significant medical advancement for both the Madison/Janesville area and the Rockford region, as these are the first procedures of their kind conducted in these locations. Let's learn a bit about it!What is a Dual Leadless Pacemaker?A dual leadless pacemaker is an innovative, wireless device implanted directly into the heart to regulate the heartbeat without the need for wires. This technology provides a safer and more effective option for individuals who may not be suitable candidates for traditional pacemakers.Patients who benefit from this type of pacemaker include those who:Have a history of cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) infections or are at high risk for infection.Have limited access for transvenous pacing due to venous anomalies, occlusion of axillary veins, or the necessity of these veins for other medical devices.Have a bio-prosthetic tricuspid valve.Advantages of a Leadless PacemakerUnlike traditional transvenous pacemakers, the leadless pacemaker eliminates several potential complications, such as pocket infections, hematomas, lead dislodgment, and lead fractures.
