Mercyhealth Hospitals Achieve Milestone with Dual Leadless Pacemaker Procedures

Hey guys, a great new development was just achieved at our local hospital! Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center–Janesville and Javon Bea Hospital–Riverside have successfully performed their first dual leadless pacemaker procedures. This marks a significant medical advancement for both the Madison/Janesville area and the Rockford region, as these are the first procedures of their kind conducted in these locations. Let's learn a bit about it!

What is a Dual Leadless Pacemaker?

A dual leadless pacemaker is an innovative, wireless device implanted directly into the heart to regulate the heartbeat without the need for wires. This technology provides a safer and more effective option for individuals who may not be suitable candidates for traditional pacemakers.

Patients who benefit from this type of pacemaker include those who:

  1. Have a history of cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) infections or are at high risk for infection.
  2. Have limited access for transvenous pacing due to venous anomalies, occlusion of axillary veins, or the necessity of these veins for other medical devices.
  3. Have a bio-prosthetic tricuspid valve.

Advantages of a Leadless Pacemaker

Unlike traditional transvenous pacemakers, the leadless pacemaker eliminates several potential complications, such as pocket infections, hematomas, lead dislodgment, and lead fractures. According to Dr. Imdad Ahmed, Director of the Mercyhealth Arrhythmia Center, these devices also offer cosmetic benefits, as they do not require a chest incision or a visible pacemaker pocket. Additionally, they are compatible with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), making future diagnostic procedures more accessible for patients.

Comprehensive Care at Mercyhealth Arrhythmia Center

The Mercyhealth Arrhythmia Center, an extension of the Mercyhealth Heart and Vascular Institute, is dedicated to providing specialized care for patients with heart rhythm disorders. Led by board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist Dr. Imdad Ahmed, the center employs a patient-centered approach to diagnosing and managing arrhythmias.

With a commitment to delivering high-quality care in a timely manner, the Mercyhealth Arrhythmia Center serves patients across southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

Huge shoutout for these medical professionals doing some important work in our community! For more information, visit mercyhealthsystem.org/arrhythmia

Hedberg Public Library Announces New Bookmobile to Drive Knowledge and Fuel Community

Hedberg Public Library Announces New Bookmobile to Drive Knowledge and Fuel Community

"The Bookmobile extends the reach of the Hedberg Public Library beyond the brick and mortar building and increases access to materials for library patrons across our wonderful community."  – Dr. Jessica Grandt, Principal at Harrison Elementary, HPL Board Trustee Hedberg Public Library (HPL) is thrilled to announce the impending arrival of a new bookmobile in spring 2026, further expanding access to library resources and services across the community.   Guided by the library’s mission of “building community by providing inviting spaces to discover, share, create, and connect,” the HPL Bookmobile fosters a love of reading, supports early literacy, and provides essential resources to residents of all ages. A new HPL Bookmobile marks the library’s next chapter in bringing books, early literacy programs, and other resources directly into community spaces throughout the city. This milestone will be celebrated with an unveiling event in late spring.  The library gives special thanks to the Hedberg Public Library Foundation and the Friends of HPL for their contributions of $200,000 and $50,000 respectively, which were instrumental in making the new bookmobile a reality.   "A new bookmobile for Hedberg Public Library is more than just new wheels; it's about extending Hedberg's reach, bringing the joy of reading and vital resources to every corner of Janesville, ensuring that knowledge and connection are accessible to all, regardless of where they live," said Lara Polk, President of the HPL Foundation.  The bookmobile that HPL currently uses was donated as part of a 2016 Leadership Development Academy project. According to René Bue, Fund Development Manager at the library, “The bookmobile we have now has served us well. We have issued over 200 new library cards each June during our summer school visits and have been able to connect families with resources in the community. However, it is showing its age, and it is time to replace it with a new bookmobile which will allow us to expand our services to additional locations and to be active during more months of the year.”  To help support the new bookmobile and its operation, HPL is seeking sponsorships from local businesses and organizations and will be hosting public donation opportunities in 2026.   Hedberg Public Library is committed to connecting people with ideas, knowledge, and resources that enrich lives and strengthen the community. Through innovative programming, outreach, and services, HPL strives to make learning accessible and engaging for everyone. Learn more at hedbergpubliclibrary.org

Owned and lovingly run by Hayley, this home bakery specializes in personalized cookie cakes and gourmet cookies. Each one crafted with extra time, care, and a whole lot of heart. Her signature cookie cake strikes that rare, perfect balance between soft and crunchy, with edges that gently crisp while the center stays irresistibly tender. And the buttercream? Simply outstanding. It’s smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet, yet still satisfies even the most dedicated sweet tooth. We recently had the joy of collaborating with The Sweet Daisy for one of our free promotional Buzz video through Janesville Buzz, and Hayley truly went above and beyond. In the middle of filming, she surprised us with the sweetest gesture! A mini custom cookie cake featuring our logo piped entirely in buttercream. It was not only the most thoughtful and beautiful surprise, but absolutely delicious! It showcased exactly what makes her bakery special: creativity, craftsmanship, and genuine care. The Sweetest New Spot in Janesville

The Sweetest New Spot in Janesville

There’s a new aroma drifting through downtown Janesville. The unmistakable scent of freshly baked cookies from Sugardust Bakehouse, the newest (and already wildly popular) bakery in town. Open just a short while, Sugardust has quickly become a local favorite. So much of a favorite that they’re selling out daily, even on a random Tuesday!I finally managed to snag a few cookies before they disappeared. An M&M cookie sprinkled with festive Halloween colors and a peanut butter cookie topped with the most adorable little Reese’s Cup spider. Each bite was soft, rich, and packed with that made-from-scratch goodness you can only get from a baker who truly loves what they do.That love runs deep at Sugardust Bakehouse. As shared on their website, the passion for cookies started “way back in the 1900s,” when Diane, the owner, tasted a life-changing chocolate chip cookie at a friend’s house. That moment sparked decades of baking making thousands of cookies for family, friends, neighbors, and community events. Every recipe tells a story, and every treat is made with care, connection, and a touch of nostalgia. Now, through Sugardust Bakehouse, those stories are being shared with all of Janesville. It’s more than a bakery. It’s a space where memories are made and community is built, one cookie at a time. So next time you’re in Janesville, stop by early, grab a few cookies before they sell out, and share a little sweetness with someone you love. After all, that’s exactly what Sugardust is all about.📍 2549 Milton Ave., Janesville, WI🔗 https://www.sugardustcookies.com/

Each bite was perfection: the breading had a satisfying crunch, the chicken was tender and flavorful, and the mushroom gravy was rich and savory without overpowering the dish.My husband opted for the Rinderrouladen with Mashed Potatoes, and from the very first bite, he was transported back to family dinners from his childhood. This was the kind of meal his grandmother would make for the whole family, and The Sandwich Bar didn’t miss a beat.
