Embark on a captivating roaming presentation through the botanical garden, where the history and beauty of British Medieval gardens come to life. Naturalist Paul Stieff will discuss the origins of these historic gardens, their distinct types — such as kitchen, herb, and ornamental gardens — and the diverse plants that once flourished in them. Discover how many of these plants, including herbs like rosemary, lavender, and thyme, continue to thrive in modern gardens today. Experience the fascinating uses of herbs in the Middle Ages, from culinary to medicinal, and uncover the symbolic meanings behind plant names. Along the way, you’ll also hear about how gardens feature in the works of Shakespeare, offering insights into their cultural significance.
