We Get Smashed at Jack & Jenny

We Get Smashed at Jack & Jenny

We're talking about smash burgers of course.Jack & Jenny's is the newest addition to Janesville's downtown. And who doesn't love a new burger joint? We decided to head down and try two of their burgers. Carly went with the Classic Smash. American cheese, romaine, tomato, red onion, and special sauce round out two smashed patties.Jake on the other hand opted for the Big Smash Mac. Two guesses where the inspiration for this burger came from. American cheese, iceburg lettuce, pickle, and special sauce will make you think there's a clown just around the corner. We can happily report that both burgers were delicious.Beyond the burgers you'll find fries, FANCY fries, tots, shareables, and more. For those not feeling a burger, you can order yourself a salad, one of their many handheld, or even something off the "Dinners & Mac" section of the menu.Jake and Carly give Jack & Jenny's four thumbs up. So next time you're feeling hungry, take a little trip to downtown Janesville to give Jack & Jenny's a try!📍15 N Main Street, Janesville, WI🔗 https://jackandjennysbar.com/

Mercyhealth Celebrates 300th TAVR Procedure

Mercyhealth Celebrates 300th TAVR Procedure

Milestone in Heart Health: Mercyhealth Celebrates 300th TAVR ProcedureMercyhealth has reached a major milestone in heart care, recently performing its 300th successful TAVR procedure—a cutting-edge, minimally invasive technique that has transformed treatment for patients with severe aortic stenosis. What Is TAVR?Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a lifesaving alternative to open-heart surgery for patients whose aortic valve has become narrowed and can no longer function effectively. Instead of opening the chest, doctors guide a new valve to the heart using a thin catheter threaded through a blood vessel, usually from the leg. The entire process takes just 1–2 hours.Because of its minimally invasive nature, most TAVR patients spend less time in the hospital and are back to their regular activities within a week or two—a major improvement over traditional surgery recovery times.A Local Leader in Advanced Cardiac Care“We’ve built an incredibly dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and technicians who are proud to bring this level of care to our community,” said Dr. Gene Gulliver, interventional cardiologist at Mercyhealth. “TAVR was once only available at large university hospitals, and now we’re offering it right here in Janesville.”Why It MattersAortic stenosis affects over 2.5 million Americans age 75 and older. Symptoms like chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and even fainting can severely reduce quality of life—and in many cases, be life-threatening if untreated. TAVR offers these patients a safer, faster path to recovery and improved heart function.Want to Learn More?If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms of aortic stenosis or has been diagnosed with valve disease, you can learn more about Mercyhealth’s TAVR program by visiting mercyhealthsystem.org/TAVR or by calling (608) 756-6868.This achievement marks more than just a number—it’s 300 lives changed, and a growing legacy of advanced, compassionate heart care in southern Wisconsin!

Sizzling Good Time at Fuji Steakhouse

Sizzling Good Time at Fuji Steakhouse

Last week, I joined my boss, Jake, for the hibachi lunch at Fuji Steakhouse on Milton Avenue in Janesville. We went in right at the tail end of lunch service - the place was mellow and comfortably lit with soft ambiance, beautiful water features, and vibrant fish tanks framing the hibachi tables. The Hibachi ShowOur chef arrived with flair, cracking jokes, flipping spatulas, and even launching an impressive onion volcano that burst into flame right before our eyes. He was talkative, personable—and clearly skilled. He playfully tossed a spoonful of rice into Jake’s mouth, and he stuck the landing! What We AteWe both ordered the hibachi lunch combo—I chose chicken, Jake opted for shrimp. Dinner included fried rice, generously coated in thick, tangy sauces, seasoned vegetables, and our grilled meat of choice, juicy and flavorful! The portions were huge. I had more than half my meal left to take home—great value at about $13–14 for lunch specials. The meal was hearty, savory, and comfortingly flavorful.Starter & ServiceWe began with hearty house salads that came with sweet, creamy dressing—simple, but undeniably tasty. The service was attentive and fast, and the chef stayed engaging from start to finish.Atmosphere & ValueFuji’s sizable parking lot makes arrival easy. The low‑lighting by the hibachi grill sets a relaxed mood, with the water features adding a calming backdrop. While the restaurant wasn't busy during our timing, that actually let us luxuriate in the chef’s full attention. This location has built a strong local reputation for combining good ambiance, prompt service, generous portion sizes, and entertaining chefs—all at a price that feels like a steal among Janesville hibachi venues. If you're in the mood for a fun, interactive meal and generous portions without a hefty bill, Fuji Steakhouse’s hibachi lunch is a solid pick—especially with a guaranteed smile from the chef’s performance. That's the buzz!

Janesville Tourism Shatters Records Again

Janesville Tourism Shatters Records Again

Janesville Tourism Shatters Records Again, Fueling Local Growth and Community PrideFor the third year in a row, tourism in Janesville is on a record-breaking streak, and the numbers from 2024 are in—they’re nothing short of incredible. The Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (JACVB) has announced that visitor spending and total economic impact have reached all-time highs, firmly establishing Janesville as a rising star in Wisconsin’s tourism landscape.According to newly released data, visitors spent $170.2 million in Janesville in 2024, a $6 million increase from the year prior. When indirect and induced economic impacts are factored in, that total jumps to an impressive $260.1 million. To put that in perspective: Janesville welcomed an average of $466,000 in visitor spending every single day last year. But the impact goes well beyond dollars. This surge in tourism supported 1,178 local jobs and generated $14.5 million in state and local tax revenue. Without that revenue, each Janesville household would need to contribute an extra $518 in taxes to make up the difference.“Tourism continues to play a vital role in our local economy—not only supporting jobs and small businesses, but also enhancing quality of life for our residents,” said Christine Rebout, Executive Director of the JACVB. “With exciting developments on the horizon, we’re confident Janesville will continue to grow as a year-round destination.”Big Developments Fueling the MomentumJanesville's recent growth in tourism isn’t just a happy accident—it’s the result of deliberate investment in attractions, facilities, and community events. One of the most anticipated projects, the Woodman’s Sports & Convention Center, is scheduled to open this fall. Designed to host tournaments, conferences, trade shows, and community gatherings, this modern, multi-use venue is expected to draw visitors from across the region and beyond. With year-round programming, it will drive traffic to local hotels, restaurants, and shops—especially during the shoulder seasons when tourism typically dips. Also on the horizon is the Children’s Museum of Rock County, expected to open in 2026. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for this summer, marking the next big step in bringing a new destination for family learning and play to downtown Janesville. Once open, the museum will become another key attraction for residents and visitors alike.Janesville Helps Lead the State in Tourism GrowthJanesville’s success is part of a broader statewide trend. Wisconsin tourism set its own record in 2024 with a staggering $25.8 billion in economic impact. Rock County, in particular, saw a 5.7% increase in total economic activity and a 6.4% increase in direct visitor spending—ranking third out of all 72 counties for the highest percentage growth in both categories. With more than $131 million in labor income generated across the county, tourism continues to strengthen not just the hospitality sector but also the overall economy in meaningful ways.Looking AheadThe future of tourism in Janesville looks incredibly bright. Continued investment in amenities, unique event programming, and destination marketing will ensure the city remains a go-to spot for travelers—and a proud home for locals. To learn more about Janesville’s attractions, upcoming events, and ways to get involved, visit janesvillecvb.com.

Propel Forward’s First-Ever STEAM/Career Day!

Propel Forward’s First-Ever STEAM/Career Day Takes Off at Southern Wisconsin Regional AirportApril 29th marked an exciting milestone for STEAM education in southern Wisconsin as Propel Forward hosted its first-ever Pistons and Props: STEAM/Career Day at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport. Designed to introduce students to careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, the inaugural event brought together education, industry, and aviation in a hands-on, interactive setting that inspired the next generation of innovators.Partnering with 18 local and national organizations, Propel Forward welcomed 7th and 8th-grade students from Aldrich Middle School, Fruzen Middle School in Beloit, and St. John Vianney School in Janesville for a day filled with exploration and discovery.A Day of Discovery and EngagementThe event was split into morning and afternoon sessions, with students rotating between two major activity areas. Inside Revv Aviation, students explored a variety of free-choice STEAM stations, while the airport terminal hosted a career speaker series that featured professionals from aviation, healthcare, engineering, public service, and more.Hands-on learning was at the heart of the experience, and students were given the chance to interact directly with pilots, engineers, technicians, and other experts. Exhibits ranged from aviation simulators and mechanical demos to medical flight operations and drone technology.Community Partners Take Center StageThe success of STEAM/Career Day was made possible by a collaborative effort between Propel Forward and a powerhouse lineup of community-minded organizations, including:Corporate Contractors Inc. With plans already underway for this year’s Family Day on July 19, organizers are committed to continuing the mission of educational engagement, aviation appreciation, and community empowerment.“This was a launchpad for so many students,” said a Propel Forward spokesperson. “We’re proud to create a space where learning comes to life and where kids can see themselves in careers they may have never imagined.”For more about Propel Forward’s upcoming events and educational programs, visit propelforwardwi.org.
