Children’s Museum of Rock County Construction Progress

Children’s Museum of Rock County Construction Progress

JANESVILLE, Wis, Sep. 17, 2025: Major progress has been made on the Children’s Museum of Rock County (CMRC) project at 100 W. Milwaukee Street since the groundbreaking in early June.To date, the 1950s addition on the property has been razed, hazardous material abatement in the historic building is complete, and restoration work is continuing. JP Cullen has brought a 160-foot crawler crane to the construction site, signaling the start of construction on the new addition.“Over the next couple of months, crews will soon begin forming and pouring concrete footings and foundations for the new building addition,” said Kent Anderson, CMRC Executive Director. “After these are poured, the crane will be used to start setting structural steel when it arrives in November. Steel erection will take about a month to complete, then crews will move right into putting up the walls of the new addition.”The CMRC has also engaged with two exhibit fabricators, Boss Display and Dimensional Innovations. The companies will design, fabricate, and install severaleral interactive experiences set to be featured in the future children’s museum. Exhibit designs should be finalized within the next 30 days. The Let’s PLAY Together Capital Campaign officially ended on August 31, with over $14.5 million in pledges and donations. Museum officials state that efforts will now switch to annual operations fundraising for the non-profit.“Achieving our mission takes more than creativity and care – it requires consistent operational support that only generous community support can provide,” said Anderson. “Especially now, every gift fuels the daily work that will keep our exhibits vibrant, our programs accessible, and our doors open to families from all backgrounds. We invite everyone who believes in building a brighter future for our children to invest in the joy and learning made possible at the museum, because every child’s curiosity deserves a strong and sustainable foundation.”At this time, construction of the museum is proceeding as scheduled. Anderson stated that he expects the children’s museum to open in late 2026. Those interested in learning more about the project and donating can visit kidsatplayrc.com.

Two Muralists Selected for Janesville’s Art Infusion on September 5-7

Two Muralists Selected for Janesville’s Art Infusion on September 5-7

The Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (JACVB) is excited to announce the two muralists selected to create new large-scale murals during Art Infusion, taking place on September 5–7, 2025 in downtown Janesville. This year’s festival will feature Raymond Mawst and returning muralist Chris Silva who will each bring their distinctive artistic styles to transform downtown walls into vibrant and lasting works of art. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to watch these murals come to life over the course of the weekend.Chris Silva's creative pursuits are firmly rooted in Chicago's urban culture. Chris was an innovative figure in Chicago's early graffiti and skateboarding scenes and from that foundation proceeded to play a significant role in the development of what is now commonly referred to as "street art." He splits his time between working on large scale commissions, producing gallery-oriented work, and leading community-based public art projects. Chris first visited Janesville for Art Infusion 2022 to create the Rock River Guardian, with the help of his friend, Erik, overlooking the shared patio of Genisa Wine Bar and Jack & Jenny’s along the Rock River. Chris will be painting along the Midwest Storage building in downtown Janesville, cohesively adding to a wall that currently features Window Seat by Matthew Mederer from Art Infusion 2024 and Phoebe’s Dream by Valerie Saxer from Art Infusion 2023.Raymond Mawst began his career as a package designer in New York City before returning to Wisconsin to start his own lettering and design company. In 2017, he discovered a passion for sign painting, which led him to explore large-scale mural work. By 2019, he founded OhYa Studio in Madison, where he has created more than 50 murals in the area. As of 2025, he works independently as Raymond Murals & Signs, bringing his bold style to walls across the region. This second mural will be created on an outdoor wall near an entrance to Hedberg Public Library, introducing another bold and imaginative work to Janesville’s growing collection of public art.In addition to the live mural painting, Art Infusion will offer a variety of activities for all ages, including the Chalk Art Competition where artists of all skill levels are invited to create temporary chalk masterpieces on downtown sidewalks. The weekend will also feature art exhibits, workshops, guided tours, live performances, shopping, dining, and more.Art Infusion began in 2011 as a way to build community through creativity and continues to evolve each year, with a growing number of murals and public art projects transforming Janesville’s downtown. Art Infusion draws visitors from across the region and highlights the impact of art as a lasting and accessible part of community identity. The Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (JACVB) is a private, non-profit Destination Marketing Organization, whose mission is to lead, support and promote the region as an outstanding destination, creating a positive economic impact for the community, cultivating resident pride and enhancing its quality of life. As a one-stop contact for travelers, meeting planners and sports rights holders, the team answers questions, directs visitors to key attractions, and produces informational materials to help guests easily navigate Janesville. Expert staff can recommend lodging options, plan future visits, and arrange complimentary services. We Get Smashed at Jack & Jenny

We Get Smashed at Jack & Jenny

We're talking about smash burgers of course.Jack & Jenny's is the newest addition to Janesville's downtown. And who doesn't love a new burger joint? We decided to head down and try two of their burgers. Carly went with the Classic Smash. American cheese, romaine, tomato, red onion, and special sauce round out two smashed patties.Jake on the other hand opted for the Big Smash Mac. Two guesses where the inspiration for this burger came from. American cheese, iceburg lettuce, pickle, and special sauce will make you think there's a clown just around the corner. We can happily report that both burgers were delicious.Beyond the burgers you'll find fries, FANCY fries, tots, shareables, and more. For those not feeling a burger, you can order yourself a salad, one of their many handheld, or even something off the "Dinners & Mac" section of the menu.Jake and Carly give Jack & Jenny's four thumbs up. So next time you're feeling hungry, take a little trip to downtown Janesville to give Jack & Jenny's a try!📍15 N Main Street, Janesville, WI🔗 https://jackandjennysbar.com/

Mercyhealth Celebrates 300th TAVR Procedure

Mercyhealth Celebrates 300th TAVR Procedure

Milestone in Heart Health: Mercyhealth Celebrates 300th TAVR ProcedureMercyhealth has reached a major milestone in heart care, recently performing its 300th successful TAVR procedure—a cutting-edge, minimally invasive technique that has transformed treatment for patients with severe aortic stenosis. What Is TAVR?Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) is a lifesaving alternative to open-heart surgery for patients whose aortic valve has become narrowed and can no longer function effectively. Instead of opening the chest, doctors guide a new valve to the heart using a thin catheter threaded through a blood vessel, usually from the leg. The entire process takes just 1–2 hours.Because of its minimally invasive nature, most TAVR patients spend less time in the hospital and are back to their regular activities within a week or two—a major improvement over traditional surgery recovery times.A Local Leader in Advanced Cardiac Care“We’ve built an incredibly dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and technicians who are proud to bring this level of care to our community,” said Dr. Gene Gulliver, interventional cardiologist at Mercyhealth. “TAVR was once only available at large university hospitals, and now we’re offering it right here in Janesville.”Why It MattersAortic stenosis affects over 2.5 million Americans age 75 and older. Symptoms like chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, and even fainting can severely reduce quality of life—and in many cases, be life-threatening if untreated. TAVR offers these patients a safer, faster path to recovery and improved heart function.Want to Learn More?If you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms of aortic stenosis or has been diagnosed with valve disease, you can learn more about Mercyhealth’s TAVR program by visiting mercyhealthsystem.org/TAVR or by calling (608) 756-6868.This achievement marks more than just a number—it’s 300 lives changed, and a growing legacy of advanced, compassionate heart care in southern Wisconsin!

Sizzling Good Time at Fuji Steakhouse

Sizzling Good Time at Fuji Steakhouse

Last week, I joined my boss, Jake, for the hibachi lunch at Fuji Steakhouse on Milton Avenue in Janesville. We went in right at the tail end of lunch service - the place was mellow and comfortably lit with soft ambiance, beautiful water features, and vibrant fish tanks framing the hibachi tables. The Hibachi ShowOur chef arrived with flair, cracking jokes, flipping spatulas, and even launching an impressive onion volcano that burst into flame right before our eyes. He was talkative, personable—and clearly skilled. He playfully tossed a spoonful of rice into Jake’s mouth, and he stuck the landing! What We AteWe both ordered the hibachi lunch combo—I chose chicken, Jake opted for shrimp. Dinner included fried rice, generously coated in thick, tangy sauces, seasoned vegetables, and our grilled meat of choice, juicy and flavorful! The portions were huge. I had more than half my meal left to take home—great value at about $13–14 for lunch specials. The meal was hearty, savory, and comfortingly flavorful.Starter & ServiceWe began with hearty house salads that came with sweet, creamy dressing—simple, but undeniably tasty. The service was attentive and fast, and the chef stayed engaging from start to finish.Atmosphere & ValueFuji’s sizable parking lot makes arrival easy. The low‑lighting by the hibachi grill sets a relaxed mood, with the water features adding a calming backdrop. While the restaurant wasn't busy during our timing, that actually let us luxuriate in the chef’s full attention. This location has built a strong local reputation for combining good ambiance, prompt service, generous portion sizes, and entertaining chefs—all at a price that feels like a steal among Janesville hibachi venues. If you're in the mood for a fun, interactive meal and generous portions without a hefty bill, Fuji Steakhouse’s hibachi lunch is a solid pick—especially with a guaranteed smile from the chef’s performance. That's the buzz!

Janesville Tourism Shatters Records Again

Janesville Tourism Shatters Records Again

Janesville Tourism Shatters Records Again, Fueling Local Growth and Community PrideFor the third year in a row, tourism in Janesville is on a record-breaking streak, and the numbers from 2024 are in—they’re nothing short of incredible. The Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (JACVB) has announced that visitor spending and total economic impact have reached all-time highs, firmly establishing Janesville as a rising star in Wisconsin’s tourism landscape.According to newly released data, visitors spent $170.2 million in Janesville in 2024, a $6 million increase from the year prior. When indirect and induced economic impacts are factored in, that total jumps to an impressive $260.1 million. To put that in perspective: Janesville welcomed an average of $466,000 in visitor spending every single day last year. But the impact goes well beyond dollars. This surge in tourism supported 1,178 local jobs and generated $14.5 million in state and local tax revenue. Without that revenue, each Janesville household would need to contribute an extra $518 in taxes to make up the difference.“Tourism continues to play a vital role in our local economy—not only supporting jobs and small businesses, but also enhancing quality of life for our residents,” said Christine Rebout, Executive Director of the JACVB. “With exciting developments on the horizon, we’re confident Janesville will continue to grow as a year-round destination.”Big Developments Fueling the MomentumJanesville's recent growth in tourism isn’t just a happy accident—it’s the result of deliberate investment in attractions, facilities, and community events. One of the most anticipated projects, the Woodman’s Sports & Convention Center, is scheduled to open this fall. Designed to host tournaments, conferences, trade shows, and community gatherings, this modern, multi-use venue is expected to draw visitors from across the region and beyond. With year-round programming, it will drive traffic to local hotels, restaurants, and shops—especially during the shoulder seasons when tourism typically dips. Also on the horizon is the Children’s Museum of Rock County, expected to open in 2026. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for this summer, marking the next big step in bringing a new destination for family learning and play to downtown Janesville. Once open, the museum will become another key attraction for residents and visitors alike.Janesville Helps Lead the State in Tourism GrowthJanesville’s success is part of a broader statewide trend. Wisconsin tourism set its own record in 2024 with a staggering $25.8 billion in economic impact. Rock County, in particular, saw a 5.7% increase in total economic activity and a 6.4% increase in direct visitor spending—ranking third out of all 72 counties for the highest percentage growth in both categories. With more than $131 million in labor income generated across the county, tourism continues to strengthen not just the hospitality sector but also the overall economy in meaningful ways.Looking AheadThe future of tourism in Janesville looks incredibly bright. Continued investment in amenities, unique event programming, and destination marketing will ensure the city remains a go-to spot for travelers—and a proud home for locals. To learn more about Janesville’s attractions, upcoming events, and ways to get involved, visit janesvillecvb.com.

Boys & Girls Club of Janesville Breaks Ground on New Facility

Exciting changes are underway for the Boys & Girls Club of Janesville as construction on its long-awaited new facility officially begins. With the first stages of building already in progress, the Club is looking ahead to a grand opening in September 2026—a milestone that will mark a major leap forward for local youth programming. The groundbreaking ceremony, held recently at 925 South Jackson Street, drew an enthusiastic crowd of about 200 community members, donors, and leaders. The celebration was highlighted by remarks from Wisconsin Department of Administration Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld, Club CEO Rebecca Veium, Board President, and even a current Club member—each sharing how this project represents far more than a new building. This isn’t just about bricks and beams—it’s about building opportunity, hope, and a brighter future for young people in Rock County.Once complete, the new facility will triple the number of youth ages 6–18 that the Club can serve each year. That means expanded access to academic support, enrichment programs, mentorship, and safe spaces for kids and teens who need it most. The project is ambitious, and fundraising efforts are still underway. As of now, $10.2 million has been raised toward the Club’s $12 million goal, and the team continues to work tirelessly to close the gap.A recent feature by the Janesville Gazette offers a deeper look into the vision for the space and what it will mean for the community. You can read that full article here.As construction progresses over the next 12 to 14 months, the Club will be sharing regular updates and continuing to invite support from the community. For those interested in being a part of this transformative project—whether through donations, volunteerism, or partnership—there’s still time to get involved.
